Principal’s Message

October 1, 2026

Aloha e nā ʻohana a me nā haumāna o Barbers Point [Aloha Barbers Point Families and Students],

As we reach the conclusion of Quarter 1, I want to take a moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate the incredible journey our school community has taken together over these past several weeks. Beginning a new school year always brings a mix of excitement and fresh challenges, but seeing our Jets step onto campus each day with energy, curiosity, and determination fills me with immense pride.

There is a classic saying about places like ours - that we are "a little school with a big heart." Looking around our campus each day, I find that old cliché captures who we are perfectly. What we may lack in physical size and upgraded facilities, we more than make up for in warmth, care, dedication, and community spirit. You see that "big heart" in our classrooms, across our campus, and in how our families show up to cheer on our kids, such as our incredible turnout at the Kapolei Homecoming Parade.

That big heart is exactly why I have so much hope for our future. When I look at our students, I do not just see elementary kids learning ELA and math; I see future leaders, problem solvers, and compassionate citizens who are learning how to persevere, think beyond themselves, and make the world a better place. The foundation we are building together today will carry them far beyond our campus, preparing them for middle school, college, careers, and life.

As we work to foster a safe and positive learning environment, being Relentless Together also extends to how our students interact with one another and our staff outside the classroom setting. Recently, we have noticed an increase in behavioral concerns in our shared spaces, specifically in the cafeteria, on the school bus, and on the playground. To ensure every Jet feels safe, valued, and respected throughout the entire school day, we need your active support as parents and guardians. We kindly ask that you take time over the upcoming break to have a meaningful conversation with your child about the importance of respecting all staff and adults who keep them safe, using polite language, following adult instructions promptly, maintaining safe play and proper manners in the cafeteria, and practicing kindness and safety on the bus so everyone arrives at school and home safely.

Fall break is a vital time for our students to step away from daily routines, recharge their minds, and enjoy unhurried time with family and friends. We encourage your student to take a true break from schoolwork and screens, as rest and unstructured downtime are essential for mental well-being and long-term academic success. Take time to celebrate small wins together by reflecting on the progress made in Quarter 1 and highlighting specific moments where your child showed resilience or growth. Enjoy simple moments together connecting as an 'ohana, whether sharing meals, exploring our beautiful island, or just relaxing at home. If you are looking for a quick boost of encouragement during the break, take a moment as a family to watch this short, inspiring video: Watch How to Succeed Here. It serves as a wonderful reminder of what happens when we keep pushing forward together.

To our students: Thank you for your hard work, your big smiles, and the joy you bring to BPES every day. You have set a fantastic tone for the rest of the school year.

To our parents and guardians: Thank you for your partnership, trust, and continuous support. Education is a shared responsibility, and your involvement makes a world of difference.

When we return for Quarter 2 on October 13th, we will continue building on our strong momentum, expanding learning opportunities, and remaining relentless in our support for every single child.

Wishing you all a safe, peaceful, and rejuvenating Fall Break!

Me ka ʻoiaʻiʻo [Sincerely],

Mrs. Mariko Yorimoto, Principal
