Barbers Point Elementary
Cell Phone Policy
Cell Phone and Smart Watch Policy
We recognize that cell phones have become a common tool for communication and general access to information. However, they have also become a major distraction to the learning environment and are vulnerable to theft. We ask that you allow your child to carry a cell phone only if absolutely necessary. A child who brings a cell phone or a smart watch to school is responsible for their own property.
In accordance with the Board of Education Policy 301-11, at the elementary school level, use of cell phones shall be prohibited during school hours.
Students are allowed to carry cell phones to school. However, phones must be turned off and stored out of sight at all times while on campus.
At Barbers Point Elementary, phones and smart watches may not be used to talk, take pictures, play games, video/voice record, or text on school campus. This includes during, before, and after school, on the bus, and at recess and lunch.
Students not following this policy will be asked to put their cell phones away. Students who refuse to put away their phones or continue to use them inappropriately or at inappropriate times may be referred to Administration for insubordination.
