SEXUAL VIOLENCE PREVENTION PROGRAM

At Barbers Point Elementary, the health and safety of our students remain our top priority. In our continued efforts to foster and provide a safe and supportive learning environment, we will be implementing a Sexual Violence Prevention (SVP) curriculum this school year in our classrooms to help empower our students with the knowledge and skills necessary to protect themselves and others.

We highly recommended that parents and legal guardians preview the materials before we begin to implement the lessons. If you choose NOT to have your child participate in this curriculum, please complete and sign the attached Opt-Out form to your child's teacher by December 18, 2026.

If we do not receive an opt-out form by December 18, 2026, we will assume that your child has your permission to participate in this important educational program facilitated by his or her classroom teacher.

Sexual Violence Prevention Parent Brochure

Purpose of the Brochure

Child sexual abuse is a serious and widespread issue, and many cases go unreported due to fear, shame, or lack of awareness. The goal of this brochure is to empower parents and guardians by providing helpful information to raise awareness and promote informed conversations with children about safety. By partnering together, we can take proactive measures to protect our children.

Why This is Important

The safety and well-being of our students is a priority for our school community. Unfortunately, child sexual abuse is an issue that affects many families, and it is critical that we provide parents and guardians with the knowledge and resources to recognize the signs and take action. Awareness and education are key to preventing abuse and protecting vulnerable children in our communities.

Role of Schools in Prevention

As educators, we play an essential role in preventing and reducing the risk of child sexual violence by providing families with the tools and information they need to safeguard their children. This brochure is part of our broader effort to ensure that our students grow up in a safe, supportive, and healthy environment.

Information Available in Multiple Languages

To make the information accessible to all families, the brochure has been translated into 15 languages. You can access these translations via the QR code on the back of the brochure. If you prefer a printed copy in a specific language, please feel free to request one from the school office.

What’s Included in the Brochure

The brochure offers easy-to-understand information on child sexual abuse, including how to prevent it, how to recognize signs of abuse, and what to do if you suspect abuse.
